Abstract
This article seeks to understand the challenges that will face Brazilian public universities in the post-pandemic world, their products, roles, and relationships with different sectors of society, taking as a starting point the actions and experiences during the pandemic. For that, we carried out exploratory research based on bibliographical and documentary research and semi-structured interviews. We interviewed academics from seven public universities in the five regions of Brazil. All interviewees have conducted research projects or other initiatives related to COVID-19. We interpret the results from the method of content analysis of a qualitative nature. We hope to contribute to the evolution of the university's role in society and reflect on new capacities to be built or reformulated within the scope of public teaching and research institutions.
